SLEEP-OUTS
Sleeping under a million stars, with animals sounds around you is fast becoming one of the true African luxuries. With very little light pollution around the star gazing from a sleep-out platform or the comfort of your bed is incredible. Often as your eyes adjust to the light you can sometimes see animals moving in the darkness.
More and more camps and lodges have a form of sleep-out, whether it is a simple fly-camp in Tanzania or Zambia, an open roof terrace in Namibia or Kenya, sky-beds in Botswana or Kenya or purpose built sleep-out platforms in South Africa's the Sabi Sands, Tswalu or Zimbabwe. This is one of our top safari experiences and so we have hand selected the best sleep-outs to offer our guests.
Whilst on your African Safari please enquire about the option to experience a sleep-out. They are often an additional experience on offer from the camps and lodges throughout Africa (but not all of them) and so are often done as a one night experience away from the lodge or camp. Your room back at the camp is still available to you if you are nervous or if the weather is not favorable.
In the wilderness of Africa, there are no towns or cities to create light pollution and so these areas offer some of the best star gazing in the world. Lying in bed with nothing above you to obscure your view and falling asleep to the sounds of the African bush is an experience that will remain with you forever.
Below is a selection of some of our favorite sleep-outs in Africa. If this is something you want to do whilst on your African safari, please make sure you tell us so we can include a camp or lodge that offers this safari experience.

ZambiaFly-camping in the South Luangwa, Lower Zambezi or Liuwa Plains whilst on a walking safari. From the grassy plains, the mighty Zambezi River or in a dry riverbed, Zambia's fly-camps are some of the more remote and adventurous.
|
BotswanaWhether you are sleeping under the incredible stars on the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans or sleeping on a deck in the middle of the Okavango Delta, Botswana's sleep-outs are an incredible addition to your safari in Botswana.

NamibiaWith very little to no light pollution around, Namibia offers some of the best sleeping under the stars experiences and with few large predators around, you don't even need a tent to protect you.
|
TanzaniaTanzania seems to be the home of the fly-camp. Walking through the Selous or Ruaha in Big game country and then sleeping under the stars around a fire is sure to get the heart pumping. We also offer incredible walking safaris in the Serengeti among the migration, sleeping in basic tents off the beaten track.
