Namibia Helicopter Safari
Days 1, 2 and 3 - Wolwedans & Sossusvlei
You will be met on arrival in Windhoek and assisted with your luggage and boarding your helicopter for the start of your Namibian helicopter safari. From Windhoek, you fly south to Sossusvlei for 3-nights at Wolwedans on the NamibRand Private Reserve.
This morning you leave Wolwedans and fly to Sossusvlei for the day exploring the dunes by helicopter. You will also have the chance to drive through to Deadvlei to see the vlei from the ground. After exploring Sossusvlei you fly back to Wolwedans. Depending on your time of arrival you have the chance to enjoy an afternoon activity at Wolwedans.
This morning after another early start you will have the chance to enjoy one of the highlights of your Namibian safari, a hot air balloon over the NamibRand Nature Reserve. Float silently over the reserve and admire the vast expanse of desert and mountains below you. Once you have safely touched down, you will be treated to a champagne breakfast in the middle of the reserve.
Other activities from the lodge include game drives, bushmen walks, and horse riding. Game drives are either done in the mornings or afternoons and explore the fauna and flora of the NamibRand Nature Reserve. Bushmen walks take place on the reserve and allow guests the opportunity to learn more about the smaller aspects of the desert. Bushmen have been traversing these deserts for many years and being able to learn from them is an experience you will remember for a long time. The next best thing to being on foot in the desert is being on horseback and exploring the dunes and valleys of the reserve.
Days 4 and 5 - Koakaland
Today you leave the Namib Desert behind and fly to the coast, flying north along the coast, landing in Swakopmund to refuel, you continue along the Skeleton Coast before heading back inland to the Kaokoland, one of the remotest areas in Africa. This desolate area may seem void of all life, but once you have landed and explored the area, you will soon start to see that life thrives here. Certain animals and people have adapted to living in this harsh environment. Desert-adapted elephants, lions, black rhinos, giraffes, and more follow the dry riverbeds in search of food that manages to tap into the deep underground water. Enjoy game drives in search of these desert-adapted animals.
The Kaokoland is home to the Himba people who live a traditional nomadic lifestyle herding their goats between grazing pastures, and living in simple huts as they move away from their villages. Guests staying in the Kaokoland have the opportunity to meet and learn more about these incredible people.
Days 6 and 7 - Kunene
From the Kaokoland you head back to the Skeleton Coast flying low along the coast looking at flamingos, seal colonies, and the numerous shipwrecks as you fly. Being on a helicopter safari in Namibia allows you the ability to land on the beach and explore some of the most desolate coasts in the world. Your next camp is located in the very north of Namibia, along the Kunene River overlooking the mountains of Angola.
Upstream from your camp is one of the least known African waterfalls, Epupa Falls. Here the Kunene River runs through gaps in the rocks plunging into the gorge below, creating islands with baobab trees growing on them. Spend time photographing the falls from both the air and from the ground. After your time at the falls, you head back to camp for the afternoon activity which includes game drives in the incredible landscapes, a visit to Himba villages, boat trips on the Kunene River, and sundowners overlooking some of the most scenic landscapes.
Day 8, 9 and 10 - Etosha National Park
From the Kunene River, you continue your Namibian helicopter safari, flying south to the Etosha National Park.
Spend 2-days exploring the Etosha National Park and the private reserve where you are staying. Etosha is Namibia’s premier wildlife park with some of the best cheetah, lion and black rhino viewings in Africa. Other highlights include elephants, springbok, oryx, bat-eared foxes, wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, jackals and more.
